Turkish yard Numarine has announced the newest addition to its range, the Numarine 78HTS Sportfly. An evolution of the popular Numarine 78HT, this 24 metre yacht boasts a redesigned superyacht sundeck, complete with a central helm station and four reclining sunpads.

The aggressive exterior styling features cutaway bulwarks to allow more light into the main deck saloon, which is geared around socialising.

Accommodation is for eight guests split between four lower deck en-suite cabins, including a full-beam owner’s cabin with its own walk-in shower. Key features include a split foredeck seating area, which is ideal for relaxing in the sun and enjoying the view when cruising at speed.

Cutting edge technology on board the Numarine 78HTS Sportfly includes a smart energy management system that allows the yacht to operate silently at anchor all day with only a brief use of the generators to recharge at midday.

Noise insulation has also been thoroughly thought through and the result is a reading of just 66DB in the lower deck area when cruising. Power comes from a pair of 1,550hp MAN V8 engines for a top speed of 38 knots and a maximum cruising range of up to 400 nautical miles at 28 knots.

One of the yachting industry’s most renowned entrepreneurs, Carlo Riva died peacefully on (April 10) in his hometown of Sarnico.

Alberto Galassi, chief executive officer at parent company Ferretti Group, led the tributes, saying: “The world has lost a brilliant creator of boats, a master of style, [and] a giant in Italy’s industrial and business history.”

Born on February 24, 1922, Carlo Riva followed in the footsteps of his father Serafino, his grandfather Ernesto and his great-grandfather Pietro when he joined the family business at a young age. The newest member of the Riva dynasty went on to lead the company into an unprecedented golden era.

One of the earliest examples of a Carlo Riva-era speedboat was the Riva Ariston. He described it as “strong and pure, like a thoroughbred horse”.

Legendary models such as the Riva Florida, the Riva Tritone and the Riva Sebino were also launched under his tenure, culminating with the 1962 debut of the Riva Aquarama, which has come be to considered as one of the true icons of yachting.

Now part of the Ferretti Group, the Riva brand has grown to encompass everything from sporty 12 metre tenders to 50 metre steel and aluminium superyachts.

His values and ideas still influence the company today, as Galassi added: “Carlo Riva’s boats will always be a source of inspiration to all of us who feel a strong sense of responsibility for taking this leading brand forward into the future. Farewell Mr Riva, and enjoy the sea in your last voyage towards the horizon.”

Ferretti Group has revealed more details of this forthcoming maxi flybridge yacht.

Developed in collaboration with Zuccon International Project and due to be officially unveiled in September, this 28.49 metre fast planing yacht is being built from a GRP hull and superstructure to RINA classification.

Key features include a raised bow design that allows for a wider main-deck owner’s cabin, as well as adding to the imposing and aggressive appearance of the yacht on the water.

Ferretti Group adds that the foredeck seating area on the 920 is the largest it has ever created for a yacht of this size, with two sofas, a coffee table and removable sun shades.

Moving aft and the swim platform will be fitted with a submersible hatch, which allows for easier tender launches and creates a beach club area when the smaller vessel is deployed.

The cockpit will be made available in a choice of two layouts, with owners able to choose between a chaiselongue or a sofa in this area. The flexible superyacht sundeck includes freestanding furniture and a choice of convertible Bimini options, from variable louvres to tinted glass.

Interior décor will be reminiscent of the recently launched Ferretti 850 series — recessed ceiling light and panoramic windows will create the impression of a floating penthouse. Accommodation is for 8-10 guests with a choice of two lower-deck layouts, while the crew quarters allow for a staff of up to five people.

Power will come from a pair of MTU diesel engines — those who choose the most powerful twin 2,435hp set-up will be table to enjoy a sporty top speed of 30 knots. Other optional extras include zero-speed fins stabilisers or the Seakeeper stabilisation system.

Hatteras the American boatbuilder announced at Yachts Miami Beach boat show that the construction of the first Hatteras 90 Motor Yacht is proceeding on schedule ahead of a planned summer launch.

The 90 Motor Yacht has a flush main deck with a flexible interior arrangement. The standard layout places the galley forward along with a casual seating and dining area, while the formal dining table and salon lie aft. An optional arrangement can move the galley amidships and the dining table aft, creating a saloon forward. The galley will also incorporate a dimmable glass skylight that measures five meters by three meters and will enhance the feeling of height and light.

The main deck windows are large and frameless, maximizing views and the Hatteras design team has also created optional fold-out balconies for the main deck that are incorporated into the bulwarks.

On deck there is large aft deck settee and dining table. The foredeck also holds a settee, cocktail table and a large sun pad — an optional layout includes fore and aft-facing benches served by a table.

Hatteras adds that it plans to exhibit the first 90 Motor Yacht at the 2017 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.

The strong efforts in Research & Development allowed Ferretti Group to defeat its competitors once again, conquering a new prestigious prize to add to its important history.

The Group won the Boat Builder Awards for Business Achievement in the Innovative On Board Design Solution category, one of the eight competing areas of the prestigious event organized by METSTRADE and IBI (International Boating Industry) magazine. The ceremony took place in Amsterdam last Wednesday evening, during the Marine Equipment Trade Show.

The prize, sponsored by FUSION, a leading company in the production of stereo systems, speakers, subwoofers and amplifiers designed specifically for the marine use, recognized Ferretti Group for its new float-in garage and stern opening system developed in collaboration with H + B Technics. The Submersible Hatch can be found on the new Ferretti Yachts 850. It allows the stern garage door to open and tilt down onto the beach area, creating a larger beach club at water level. Once the door is over the platform, it automatically aligns and then lowers diagonally under the water together with the central part of the platform. In this way, the garage is flooded to launch the tender and jet-ski. The platform can then be submerged to various depths, allowing guests to prepare for sea activities or simply relax in the water.

This successful solution not only enhances the owners’ enjoyment of their boats but presents outstanding engineering and design elements. It has been registered as a patent of the Ferretti Group and will be featured on future model, starting with the new Riva 100’ Corsaro.

This approach made it possible to implement several other technologically advanced and patented solutions, such as the Convertible Top on Riva 88’ Florida and 76’ Bahamas and the Dual Mode Transom (DMT) system, installed on board all the latest Custom Line maxi yacht.

Damen Anchor & Chain Factory (AKF), based at Schiedam in the Netherlands, has completed the refurbishment of 12 giant lifting hooks for Tata Steel in IJmuiden. Each hook has a lifting capacity of either 225 or 240 tonnes and they are used to lift the enormous bowls (known as ‘ladles’) than carry and pour out molten iron and steel in steel foundries. AKF is one of the few companies in the world capable of doing this work. Its ISO 3834 welding certification demonstrates its ability to undertake such high precision work as well as manually weld towing chain up to 95mm in diameter.

The Feadship fleet is growing, with the Dutch yard today, launching its third largest superyacht so far, the 96.55 metre Project Vertigo.

Accommodation on board is for 18 guests and 32 crew, including a master suite, two VIP cabins, four double cabins and two convertible rooms. The main-deck owner’s cabin features 180-degree views out to sea and a three metre high skylight directly above the double bed.
